On 20 Oct. 2009, Kambourov & Partners participated as a partner in the second Conference on M&As in Bulgaria and the Region organized by Economedia (the publisher of Dnevnik Daily and Kapital Weekly) at the Sheraton Sofia. At the end of 2008 Kambourov & Partners was joined by a new expert in labour and social insurance law, Mr. Andrey Aleksandrov, Senior Associate at the Energy & Natural Resources, Public Procurement & Concessions Department. Before becoming part of Kambourov & Partners Mr. Alexandrov was legal counsel at the Legal and International Legal Affairs Department with the State Commission for Information Security. Andrey is approaching a PhD in employment and social insurance law from the Faculty of Law at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. He has also been teaching at the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior, Faculty of Security, the Institute of Public Administration and European Integration, and the “Saints Cyril and Methodius” International Foundation. He is a Master of Law from Sofia University, and has specialized at Hamburg University. Andrey is fluent in German and English.

The 3rd Annual Distressed Debt & Restructurings Conference organized by C5 took place at Frankfurt, Germany on January 28 and 29, 2008. High level of speakers and delegates discussed the latest on new distressed debt investment opportunities in the aftermath of the subprime crisis and market downturn. On November 22 and 23, 2007, the Academy of European Law (ERA) and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trademarks and Designs) held a joint conference on the significant developments in the judicial and the extrajudicial protection of Community trademarks (CTMs). The event took place on the premises of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market in Alicante, Spain. The Legal Committee of the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) held a meeting on September 27 and 28, 2007 in Athens, Greece. On two consecutive Mondays, the law pages of Dnevnik-daily published articles by Kambourov & Partners on the issues of acquiring Bulgarian citizenship and the peculiarities of the work permit regime for EU citizens and for third-country citizens, after Bulgaria’s accession to the EU. The piece Importing Labour – Another Challenge to Business by Nikolay Bandakov, Director, Head of Private European Law and Labour Law Department, published on September 24th, 2007, focuses on the intricacies of the Bulgarian work permit regime for EU- and third-country citizens. The article expresses recommendations for significant simplification and shortening of the work permit acquisition procedure which currently poses serious difficulties to Bulgarian employers who face the need to hire third-party employees.
The article by Elena Kandeva, Associate at the Immigration Law Department, Bulgarian Citizenship After EU, published on October 1st, 2007, stresses on the ways to acquire Bulgarian citizenship for third-country citizens, including the principle of privileged naturalization. The text pays particular attention to the fact that currently the decrees for acquiring, restoring, releasing from or depriving of Bulgarian citizenship and all prior actions thereof are not subject to judicial control and cannot be appealed by the applicants as is the practice in the rest of the EU.
On July 4 2007 in Grand Hotel Sofia in Sofia a workshop was held regarding the EFET General Agreement and its applicability in the Bulgarian energy market. The workshop was organised by the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) and the Association of Electricity Traders in Bulgaria.
