Bullying and sexual harassment are widespread in legal workplaces - 1 in 2 women and 1 in 3 men are affected by bullying, while 1 in 3 women and 1 in 14 men have been sexually harassed in a work context. The rates are the highest among young lawyers, who are disproportionately impacted - with 71% of bullied respondents aged 34 or below indicating that bullying made them wish to leave their workplace, while sexually harassed respondents aged between 25 and 29 were approximately 50% more likely than the mean to have left or have considered leaving the profession. These are some of the findings of Us Too? - the largest ever study on bullying and sexual harassment in the legal profession, conducted by the International Bar Association and Acritas (link below). Veronika Hadjieva was among the panelists who discussed these disturbing numbers and shared personal experiences and guidance within the IBA Young Lawyers' Committee Training in Seoul this Saturday, 21 September. The training provided a number of recommendations to follow in the fight against bullying and sexual harassment and announced IBA's next steps on raising awareness and facilitating the dialogue on these issues.
